We will be hosting a leadership training for High School Juniors and Seniors on September 24-25 in partnership with Kid Wind, Fresh Energy, Climate Gen, MNIPL, Youth Climate Strike, University of Minnesota’s CURA, and UROC, and REcharge Labs. This will be a two-day training where youth will attend breakout sessions, panel discussions, lectures and hands-on workshops to; understand the urgency to implement renewable energy into our energy grid, how renewable energy works, ways they can participate in renewable energy now, and how they can advocate for renewable energy with their state legislatures, and city and county elected officials.

High School Juniors and Seniors of today are the university scholars, political leaders, and voters of tomorrow. Giving them the tools they need to lead now, will give them the confidence and credibility to lead our community into a more sustainable future. Often times our youth leaders will end up in debates with nay-sayers and we want them to be ready and prepared with enough knowledge base and network to successfully participate in these discussions.

In addition to understanding what renewable energy is and how it works, they will also need to understand how government works and how to navigate it successfully in order to implement change. Sitting down with their elected representatives, breaking beads, getting to know them, and having an opportunity to express their hopes, dreams, needs, and passions, will make it seem less intimidating when presented with this opportunity in the future. This simplifies the process and helps them to understand that government is more accessible than they realize.

We will go further in connecting them with business professionals who have made renewable energy a career path. This will provide participants the opportunity to learn about different career options and what path they will need to take to get there.
